WW2: Layout

The control panel is, of course, raytraced like the one for Warp 1.5. But I didn't give it quite the same intricacy. I just went with something I knew would look OK, though not exactly original. The toy-like design and "plastic" feeling are partly due to the game being aimed at kids.

The pieces making up the panel have been arranged in a 3x3 table. The center block, containing all the graphical parts that aren't constant, houses the actual Java applet. The rest is just decoration.

Letters from many confused people have taught me that it's better to have a big, fat "PLAY" or "START" button than some text that says, for example, "Press SPACE to start". Most people don't realize that on some platforms they have to click on Java applets before any keyboard input gets sent there. So they just keep pressing SPACE and absolutely nothing happens. But this way they are forced to click on the applet, and then the control keys will work normally.
